Andheri West is a prominent locality, situated in the west of Mumbai. It boasts of scenic sea-side views and landscaped beauty due to presence of Versova Beach. It is very close to areas like Jogeshwari East and West, Goregaon East and West, Malad Creek and BMC Road. Though Andheri East offers great industrial outlook and fast connectivity. It is well connected to all the parts of the city via road and rail networks. Oshiwara, Vaishali Nagar, Jogeshwari West, Sainik Nagar, Ambivali, Sambhaji Nagar, Vile Parle, Vile Parle West, Indira Nagar, Kamla Nagar, Mora Gaon etc are its neighboring localities. It is also home to many well known production houses including Balaji Telefilms, Sony Entertainment, Sahara TV and NDTV. One of the India’s biggest FM Station 92.7 Big FM.

Connectivity :

Andheri West has excellent connectivity with Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and Santacruz Airport (Domestic) which is located at a distance of 8.4 kms via Service Road.

It enjoys easy accessibility to commercial hubs like CBD and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). It offers good connectivity to Mumbai via the Western Express Highway.

Juhu Versova Link Road, JP Road, New Link Road, Swami Vivekananda Road, P Tandon Marg and BMC Road are the prominent road run through the locality which further connects to the Western Express Highway. Apart from that, it is connected with the Suburban Western Railway Network that spreads from Churchgate to Vasai and Andheri West.

The area has an extensive state bus transport service and the Oshiwara Bus Depot and Goregaon Bus Depot lie in close vicinity.

Andheri is one of the stations on the Western and Harbour Lines of the intricate Mumbai Suburban Railway network, connecting the suburb to major stations like Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Panvel, and other prominent suburbs of the city like Bandra, Santacruz, Vile Parle and Mahim.

The recently operational Line 1 of the Mumbai Metro Rail connects Andheri to Versova in the West and Ghatkopar in the East, allowing smooth travel between Western Line and the Central Line of the suburban rail via important hubs such as the Airport, Western Express Highway, and the industrial region of Saki Naka.

Andheri Sports Complex, Gilbert Hill, Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, Jain Mandir, Versova Beach and St Blaise Church are some of the major landmarks of Andheri West.

Factors of Growth in the Past :

The original layout of this area was that of a residential colony, a networks of lanes filled with enormous bungalows facing the sea. As the time progressed, these bungalows have given rise to multi-storey apartments over the years.

The construction of the Versova Causeway in 1940 guided to the development of surrounding areas of Andheri on Shasti Island, and the adjoining islet of Versova. The Dhake Colony, consisting five historic towers, is one of the oldest colony in this locality was built in 1950.
