The bench has also directed the BBMP to take immediate possession of eight sites offered by the BDA for waste management activities in the city.Earlier, the BBMP Commissioner submitted a study report undertaken in ward number 113, which says that all the MSW generated in the ward does not go to the landfill. The study recommended that debris like Bescom and BWSSB debris, illegal construction debris, hoarding and posters etc need to be regulated.
BBMP Commissioner said that if all these assurances are in place, then an estimated 1,000 to 1,500 tonnes of waste per day will get processed. BBMP has incorporated clauses in trade licences and they have plans for apartments also.
Bulk generators like IT Parks, hotels and industrial houses have agreed to establish their own in-house waste processing units. the KSPCB, BBMP and State Government is also going to transfer knowledge to people on Municipal Solid Waste management Rules 2000.
The BBMP Commissioner has informed Karnataka high court that by April 30, the dry waste collection centres (DWCC) will be set up on 30ft x 40ft in all the 198 wards of Bangalore.
