Hebbal was once known for being the northernmost area of Bangalore. The city limit marked by the milestone between the Baptist hospital and check post still exists. The city of Bangalore has now expanded way beyond Hebbal in recent years. The commencement of the Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) at Devanahalli in 2008 has made Hebbal a very important location. It is now better known for the serpentine of flyover that connects to the Outer Ring Road and Bellary Road. The flyover spans a length of 5.23 kilometres over all the loops combined.
Hebbal has become the prime location for active growth in this city. Several IT companies like CSM Software India Private Limited, DSP Technology India Private Limited, MRO Tech AstraZeneca and Integra Micro Software Services are established here. The Embassy Manyata Business Park situated next to Nagawara Lake along the Outer Rind road is one of the biggest technology and Business Parks in Silicon Valley. This business park houses reputed IT companies like Philips Software and IBM. The famous Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has its corporate office over here. Hebbal has many government organizations like Karnataka Agro Industries Corporation, Institute of Veterinary Biologicals, University of Agricultural Science, Veterinary College, Mahatma Gandhi Polytechnic and the office of the Directorate of Biological Control are all established here.
The renowned educational institutions established in this region are The University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), SES English High School, Vidya Niketan School, Sindhi School/College, Atria Institute of Technology and Presidency College, Bangalore to name a few. The hospitals providing medical services to the residents of this locality are Columbia Asia Medical Centre, Bangalore Baptist Hospital. Preferred place to shop by the residents of this region is Janatha Bazaar.
Hebbal, currently known for its development, was also previously known for its scenic beauty. The famous Hebbal Lake still preserves the locality’s nature quotient. It is a favourite picnic spot for residents in and around Hebbal, as well as Bangalore’s best spot for bird watching. One can also go boating here and rejuvenate themselves, away from the hustle-bustle of city life.
