About Kolar

Kolar is a city located in the Kolar district of Karnataka. It’s the administrative headquarters of the district. It’s located just 70 km from Bangalore and 32 km from the Kolar Gold Fields, for which it’s most popular. Generally, Kolar is most prominently known for gold mining, and generally for silk and milk as well.

Historically, Kolar is an important city and was important source of gold. The Ganga dynasty, which reigned supreme from 350-550 CE, used Kolar as their capital city for twenty years. A sacred place from the early times, it was once called the Avantika-Kshetra. Till this day, Kolar remains famous for its religious establishments.

  • Kolar is well connected to other cities via rail. The Tyakal station at Kolar is a ready connecting point. There is also a railway station at Bangarpet, which is accessible to the residents of Kolar. This railway junction is situated just 15 km away. Through these railway stations, one can easily reach other major Indian cities
  • The closest highway to Kolar is the Bengaluru-Chennai National Highway-4, through which it can connect to major cities like Pune, Bangalore, Mumbai, and Chennai
