9 Favourite Types of Neighbours from Famous TV Shows

image-for-blog-link

So many times we come across the phrase ‘Love Thy Neighbour’, but at times don’t you wonder if it’s even possible to love a wacky neighbour with a wicked sense of humour or for that matter someone who merely stares you down…creepy!

But what if we had the same neighbour characters we see on popular TV shows as our real-life neighbours? Let’s try and see how it might turn out!

1. Palak- Comedy Nights With Kapil

This super fun and crazy neighbour woman with her slapstick ‘shayris’ has surely added to the madness of the show. She is constantly seen hunting for a prospective groom.

Palak- Kapil Comedy NightWe are more tolerant towards over-friendly, annoying neighbours now, thanks to       Palak!

2. The Brindle family- Small Wonder

The ever-nosy next-door neighbours of the Lawsons. Mr Brindle is Mr. Lawson’s unappreciative credit- stealing boss, Mrs. Brindle is a conniving woman and Harriet, their bratty daughter, is mostly seen chasing Jamie, Mr. Lawson’s son.

The Brindle family-Small wonderSad but true fact is everyone in the world has to deal with snoopy neighbours.
We don’t really have a choice but we most certainly do not enjoy it.

3. Kramer- Seinfeld

A perfect weirdo, womanizer, gambler, fruit lover, has wild money-making ideas, no steady job and a unique habit of barging into his neighbour’s apartment.

Kramer- SeinfeldIf you have him as your neighbour, we’d say tip-toe about in your home, keep the     volume low and lights off. Probably put up a board on your door saying
‘No One Lives Here’.

4. Penny- The Big Bang Theory

We can associate this character with the adjectives sweet, cheeky and funny. She’s the girl-next-door and the odd one out in the group of ‘geek’ friends.

Penny- The Big Bang TheoryWe love the whole idea and we cannot lie! A neighbour who’s sweet, jolly and sexy…   Well, what do we say? Guilty!

5. Wilson W. Wilson Jr- Home Improvement

This man is heard dropping words of wisdom from across the fence to the Taylor family and somehow always manages to solve their problems. He is never really seen in entirety.

5) Wilson W. Wilson Jr- Home Improvement

Nobody particularly likes people offering uncalled-for free advice. But who
cares if it solves all our problems? We can try and try harder to deal with that!

6. Taarak Mehta- Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah

The show’s central character runs to this philosopher and witty friend to seek sensible advice when in trouble.

Tarak Mehta- Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah

Who would mind having a one-stop destination for all problem solutions?

7. Joe Swanson- The Family Guy

This muscular paraplegic neighbour of Peter Griffin is an upright police officer, an exceptional sportsman and a good friend with occasional display of intense anger problems.

Joe Swanson- Family Guy

A police officer neighbour who is friendly, good at most things and ready to get
you out of trouble!! He can prove to be your neighbourhood messiah!

8. Chandler & Joey- Friends

This young, cool and fun duo that lived across the hall had an epic sense of humour and were truly awesome friends who would have each other’s back whenever needed.

We strongly believe their simple, goofy and good nature will make for awesome neighbour traits. And when we need to get rid of excess food, we know exactly
who to go to!

9. Pooja Aunty- Hum Paanch

She is the stylish, age-faking neighbour of the insane Mathur family. Remember her trademark line?

Pooja Aunty- Hum PaanchWe think she will offer our society enough drama and food for gossip!

If you can relate a neighbour to any of the above or other TV show neighbour characters, tell us which character you think they’re similar to and how exactly.

Household Waste to Manure: DSR Rainbow Heights Finally Makes It Happen!

It’s been 3 months since DSR Rainbow Heights started its genuine mission of contributing to make the world a greener and salubrious place. They put together a team of devoted volunteers who worked really hard to convert Household waste to manure, with the help of a supportive association (RWA members), to convert around 50% of their community’s wet waste contribution to manure. The remaining wet waste is sent to KCDC (Karnataka Compost Development Corporation) for composting. They appointed Hasirudala, a reputed waste pickup agency in Bangalore, to collect the community’s segregated waste (wet, dry and sanitary) and dispose of them in a scientific manner.

Once the waste segregation rules and procedure were set, with a little bit of order and compliance with the system, they made their mission a major success.

Russell Kirk: “In any society, order is the first need of all.”

Today, this apartment complex proudly follows the 2 bins (wet waste) and 1 bag (for dry waste) waste segregation concept and contributes less than 100 gms of waste per family but hopes to soon bring this down further.

Let’s take a look at how did the community proceeded to convert Household waste to Manure-

1)      Creating a Core Team- They brought together a team of devoted and enthusiastic volunteers who carried out a door-to-door campaign for two months with the backing of the association. The volunteers adopted a serious demeanour, sent thank you and congratulations notes to people following predefined steps and had to be stern in their dealing with people offering resistance.

2)      Working with Association Closely- It was important that their ideas were backed by a proactive association who were ready to jump in any difficult situation or whenever needed otherwise. Ideas that came from volunteers had to be approved by the association before getting implemented within 48 hours from the time of approval.

3)      Tie-up with a Strong Waste Pickup Agency- Equally important was tying-up with an agency, Hasirudala, that is quality-conscious, responsible, ethical, is well-familiar with the concept of waste segregation and believes in a scientific pickup of waste.

4)      Train the Housekeeping Staff- They needed a team to help collect waste segregated. This is when they had to train the housekeeping staff on how to collect wet and dry waste correctly. Once the team was trained, a leader was chosen to head the task and efforts were made to keep them motivated.

5)      Implementing a Strong Penalty System: A simple and effective ‘3-chance’ penalty system was implemented for cases when a resident did not follow this segregation system. Volunteers informed association of the list of defaulters and this was recorded. After chances expired, measures were taken.

6)      Build Infrastructure: The heart of the entire movement is having a good machine that directly converts wet waste to manure. As the cost of a typical good organic waste machine will cost anywhere between 8 and 10 lakhs, it’s important to build the right infrastructure.

Why is waste segregation and scientific waste disposal important?

A good look at Mandur landfill will testify the fact that not only is disposal of solid waste making our city extremely unclean, but with the amount of air pollution caused, it is in fact taking a toll on our environment and in turn risking our health. City environmentalists have raised serious concerns over this and BBMP has sent out circulars and published waste segregation mandates. It’s high time that people read the circular and check the sketch sent out by BBMP and start planning and implementing proper segregation and disposal of community generated waste for a cleaner, healthier and safer environment.

What practices have you and your community adopted for a better and greener environment? Let us know and we will be happy to cover your efforts!

Increase your Maintenance Due Collection with our ‘All New Invoice’

Create Invoice recurring (1)

Raising invoices and collection of maintenance dues is one of the biggest pain point of all the apartment managing committee members and this is where CommonFloor Groups can help the most. Based on feedback from a lot of our users, we have completely revamped our Invoice feature in the Money Manager module. It’s super easy for Admins/ Treasurers to raise maintenance dues/ other invoices and for residents, to pay those on time.

 What should you look for:

  • Complete Makeover: Raising an invoice is now a breeze – you will now have to key in minimum data while raising an invoice, making the process significantly simpler and faster.
  • Multiple Items within an Invoice: You no longer need to raise separate invoices for different particulars. All you need to do is, create a single Invoice detailing each type of charge in a separate line, making the break-up of the Invoice amount completely transparent to all residents.

  • Consolidated Settings View: All the configuration options/ settings such as Penalty, Service Tax, Round-off settings have been moved to ‘Setup’ as these needn’t be updated every time an invoice is raised. You can configure these once, and it will be applicable for all the invoices going forward

  • Save items for future: Save an entered line item along with its settings and calculations for future use.

  • Round-off Invoice Amounts: Round-up tiny decimal values, so that the final amount is easy-to-remember/ pay for residents!

  • Mobile-friendly Emails: All notification emails from Money manager module are now modified so that it can be viewed clearly on mobile devices/ tablets.

 What’s coming up:

Quite a lot of residents make advance payments on their maintenance dues, and the Admin currently need to update the payments on each Invoice separately – we are working to make this automatic and reduce a lot of manual effort for Admins. Keep watching this space for more!

We’d like to hear your thoughts on how you personally think these enhancements will help your society. Please share them with us along with your feedback on the same (if any) in the comment section below.
