Ideas to Celebrate Republic Day in your Apartment Complex

FB-Post-Republic-DayThis Monday is a proud day for every Indian, irrespective of caste, creed or culture, as our country celebrates its 66th Republic Day. There are simple ways you can celebrate the free spirit of our country in your apartment community. (Find out How CommonFloor Groups Helps You Plan an Event)

Here go some ideas you can use while organizing a community event around this patriotic occasion:

1)      Involve Maximum number of Children: It is important that you encourage children to actively participate during this celebration. They are the future of our country and their patriotism and love for their country is essential.

2)      Ask the Senior-Most Citizen to do the Hoisting Honors: Flag-hoisting plays a central role on Republic day and involving senior citizens of the society is a healthy idea. Request the senior-most citizen to do the flag-hoisting honors and make sure to do necessary seating arrangements.

3)      Sing the National Anthem ALOUD: Cherish the pride you feel while singing our national anthem. You can organize a meet a day before for the little kids who are not familiar with the words of “Jana Gana Mana”.

4)      Organize Cultural Programs (Dance/Music/Poetry): Cultural programs are an intrinsic part of our rich culture and should be a part of your Republic Day event. Let people from all different cultures form their individual teams and perform their cultural art form.

5)      Honor People Working towards a Cause: Take this opportunity to appreciate and honor the people who take out time for social service or do their bit for our society in their own way.

6)      Organize Fun Competitions for Children: As the most energetic members of the society, kids will love to take part in competitions around athletics and cultural events.

7)      Special Dishes are a Must-Have for the Occasion: A celebration is never complete without food! Make it a point to add at least a few snacks or desserts to the table.

The whole idea behind celebrating Republic Day in your apartment complex is to bind the community together and encourage the spirit of unity in diversity.

We hope this get-together is a fun, interactive celebration for you and your entire community & wish you a very Happy Republic Day!

RightStep Cell ‘Waste to Wealth’ Workshop in Yelahanka

Right Step Cell at VDB Celadon

Right Step Cell at VDB Celadon

On the 18th of January, we organized another RightStep Cell workshop on converting waste to compost. It was hosted by VDB Celadon apartments in Yelahanka and attended by enthusiastic residents from nearby apartment communities, some being Regency Magnum, Mithuna White Waters and Pawani Residency.

The active participation by attendees and the amount of knowledge exchanged during its two hour session made it worth all the hard work we channeled into it.

The workshop covered the basics of waste management, why to opt for segregation of waste at source and the benefits of installing composting units within an apartment community.

Our mission is to convert every housing society in the city into a pro-green community, with each community sending minimum waste to landfills, and in turn contributing to making a cleaner, greener Bangalore. With this in mind, we are determined to offer you whatever help and guidance we can, besides our regular array of services (book-keeping, legal, finance, community management, staff training etc). This is essentially why we introduced the concept of RightStep Cells.

If you want ‘zero waste disposal solutions’ in your apartment community and want us to conduct a similar workshop for you, please click here to fill up the form right away.

Service tax on Maintenance exempted for housing societies in Maharashtra

TAX

TAXGood news Maharashtra residents! Get ready for a sigh of relief! From today on, you won’t have to pay service tax (currently 12.36%) on your monthly apartment maintenance charges. This decision came from the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT) after a case involving Tahnee Heights, a residential society in Nariman Point emerged.

Under this new rule, if you are a flat-owner or owner of a commercial space within a housing society registered under the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act, you’re exempted from paying service tax against the society maintenance amount charged every month.

In a housing society, maintenance amount is typically collected by society RWAs (Resident Welfare Association) to pay for the community’s administrative needs such as water, lift repair, security, electricity for common areas and maintenance of gym, swimming pool.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed and hoping that this ruling soon extends to other parts of India. For now, if you want to know how much service tax you need to pay, you can read all about it here.

For more information on this update, please read the news article here.
