4 Year old Drowns while Playing

A 4 year old child recently lost his life when he fell into his society’s swimming pool while cycling in the premises. It was a little after 3.30 pm on the 22nd of July 2015 and as usual little Vikhyath rushed down to play with his new tricycle which his parents Abhijith 34, and Pallavi Deshpande had bought for him. 22nd of July was like any other day the only difference being that his grandparents could not accompany when he had rushed down, as the child was very excited to play with his new gift.

Initial investigation could find little details as no one knew how the child fell into the swimming pool. His body was found much later by the guards and other residents of Mantri Residency where the child lived with his parents and grandparents.

The child who was a kindergarten student at Carmel school in Bannerghatta was first rushed to a nearby private hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The Hulimavu police were informed and the body was then taken to Victoria hospital mortuary for the post-mortem.

Such incidents occur quiet frequently and residents find it quite difficult to deal with these. Here are thus some tips to ensure better security.

  • Guards can be deployed throughout the housing society and not only at the gates.
  • If feasible then a couple of baby sitters can be employed for children who are home in the afternoon with their parents still being away at work.
  • Children should not be allowed to venture anywhere near the gates or swimming pools without the supervision of an adult.
  • A nurse can also be employed so that emergency situations can be attended to immediately.

Well, we know nothing is full-proof and accidents can happen anywhere and at any-time. But a little caution especially towards children might help in barring such incidents a great deal.
