Encroachments Clear for Kanadia Link Road

Q: A number of people had to relocate for land clearing project in order to winden the road right? Hasn't it affected the real estate in the area?

About 111 structures were razed to the ground. The periphery of the road was extended to 80 feet not the proposed 104 feet, so some buildings did remain. And as for the real estate, this will be a good thing for the locality of Kanadia road because firstly, there won't be the possibility of living in a land encroached area as now, the government is pretty serious about monitoring that. So you won't ever be cheated by your broker or builder. Secondly, the road widening has actually shown some significant improvement of the traffic in the locality. Residents are finding it easier to commute to other places now, thanks to this project. So I'm pretty sure, this is a good locality to invest it. It has some great schools, supermarkets and hospitals in the neighbourhood that add to the real estate value! :)

Yes after this was over, the authorities are focussing on removing hurdles from Zanjeerwala square to Malwa Mill square. I think this is very much essential because how else can we improve upon our infrastructure? I remember the horrible traffic on that stretch and now I am so glad I can get to bypass road for kanadia without much traffic. There was even a heavy police force to oversee the proceedings and take action against anyone who resists. Thankfully no one did.

that's the thing though. The residents were given a few weeks or so to vacate and many of them refused to. Notices were issues and finally all the buildings that were considered encroaching on government property were demolished. Liquor shops, apartments, offices, shops, and even temples were all razed to the ground. The government has been meaning to this for a while and similar land encroachment clearences took place in other localities and areas as well.

Yes actually this happened in the end of January sometime. It was a pretty big deal as many residents had to relocate to new areas as their apartments were considered illegal. Basically, the project was undertaken to widen the Kandia link road that connects it to Samvid nagar square. It is a 2.5km long stretch that had to be widened to 104 feet. But the residents had a huge problem with this and wanted it to be only widened to about 60 feet. The civic authorities needed to expand on their infrastructure and so the road was widened to 10 or 12 feet less than what was initially intended. I don't know about real estate prices in the locality, but driving on that stretch is so much better now and I'm glad this project took place.
