Tips for Green living at Home

 
Polythene bags are a complete menace to environment through its whole life cycle. They block air and hence does not let your fruit and vegetables breathe. Then they dont burn and create lots of smoke. The unburnt Ploythene bags block sewage pipes too and create havoc like Mumbai floods. In the sea or in river also they block air to the plantations and animals.

In order to maximize the reuse/ recycle from the household garbage, it is advisable that garbage is segregated and then disposed into 3 categories , (1) Green/ Biodegradable- kitchen waste which can be reused as manure (2) Recyclable waste- Paper, Tin cans , bottles-which can be resold to the recycler and (3) Non Biodgradable/ Non recyclable- broken crockery, tubelights etc. which cannot be reclyed. Also, household batteries etc. must not be disposed in garbage and must be only given to battery

Buy only LPG (or other green Fuel) or electric cars. This will cause less pollution and also reduce dependence on Gasoline.

Dont be oblivious to trees and plants around you. Adopt a tree in your area and water it regularly.

Use the water left after rinsing your clothes to wash off the balconies / toilets - save water guys...Use a mud pot to cool water instead of storing it in the refrigerator - will save power and also good for health.

Soak the rice and lentils in water for sometime before you cook, it not only helps you save cooking gas, but is also good for health as the grains absorb water

Exchange your old appliance for newer one which consumes less energy. New appliances are designed to save electricity and meet your requirements. Exchange your old appliances and best utilize the offers. Check for labels and efficiency of appliances.

Fix if any water leaks and keep regular check for leaks. Install water saving devices in your faucets and toilets. Install a low flow shower head. Check outdoor for leakage.
