Rahatani

Overview

Rahatani is a suburb of Pimpri-Chinchwad situated in the north of Pune city. The locality is very close to Pavana river in Pune district. It comes under the jurisdiction of Pimpri-Chinchwad. It is 9 km from Hinjewadi and centrally located between the suburbs of Pimple Saudagar and Kalewadi. Other prominent localities located close to it are Wakad, Thergaon, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Kasarwadi, Pimple Gurav, Balewadi, Baner, Aundh, Hinjewadi etc. The area has good civic amenities and is very well-connected to other parts of the city. PMPML operates the public transport system in this area. The Rainbow BRTS bus system is now operational in Rahatani since November 2015.The region was a rural area till the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park came up in the neighbouring Hinjewadi area. The civic amenities have also improved here. The industrial and IT sectors’ growth, have led to the development of the retail and hospitality sectors as well.

Connectivity

The main roads connect to the Rahatani are Hedgewar Path, Rahatani Road, Kalewadi Road, Park Royal Road and Jyotiba Road.

It has excellent connectivity to Pune International Airport which is located at a distance of 25.8 km via Lohegaon Road, can be covered in less than one hour.

Pimpri, Chinchwad, Kasarwadi, Akurdi, Dapodi are its nearby railway station. However, Chinchwad is the major railway station to Rahatani which is located at a driving distance of 5.4 km via Chikhali-Kaspate Vasti BRTS Road. One can get the trains for interstate from here.

Rahatani is well connected by road to the rest of the city by public transportation. Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) operates the public transport system in this area.

Factors for past growth

The locality is a developing residential area. Its proximity to the Rajiv Gandhi InfoTech Park located at Hinjewadi makes it a residential hub for people working in the Information Technology industry.

Due to the presence of various IT majors and other multinational companies, Pune has been witnessing a fast influx of working professionals from outside. As a result, there has been a surge in the demand for residential apartments in Rahatani, being one of the noted suburbs of Pune.

Plans have been proposed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority as well, to develop a metro route between Hinjewadi and Shivaji Nagar, which will easily connect Rahatani to other parts of the city.

Some primary schools and pre-primary schools affiliated to MSBTE have been developed in this locality in the past few years. Many schools affiliated to national education boards ICSE and CBSE have been established within the area limits. Swami Vivekanand national School, Tree House Play Group, Shanti Junior Rahatani, SNBP Rahatani, Kilbil Nursery School, Bhikoba Tambe School, Wisdom World School are some of the prominent school in Rahatani. It also houses some colleges nearby. These are Marathwada Mitra Mandals College of Pharmacy, Manghanmal Udharam College of Commerce, Shri Anand Vidya Prasarak Mandals Sancheti College of Arts, Rayat Shikshan Sanstha’s Mahatma Phule Mahavidyalaya, Kantilal Khinwasara School and B.ED College among others.

Healthcare facilities are also good in the locality. Some of the quality hospitals providing healthcare facilities to the residents of Rahatani are Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital, Omkar Khalane Hospital, Lotus Multispeciality Hospital, Jeevan Jyoti Hospital, Metro Multispeciality Hospital & I.C.U, Phoenix Hospital, Polaris Healthcare to name a few.
