Barapullah elevated roadThe expansion project of the Barapullah elevated road has got clearance from the Lieutenant General on Thursday. The approved Phase III of the project includes expansion of the road from Sarai Kale Khan, INA Market to Mayur Vihar Phase Iand in this regard, a bridge will also be built over the Yamuna.

The alignment of the Phase III of this elevated project also includes construction of a flyover which would be parallel to the existing single carriageway flyover besides the UP Link Road near Mayur Vihar Phase I in order to ease out traffic movement from Noida to Akshardham. As per the plan, the elevated road will slope before the proposed flyover. Official sources said that the proposal for bridge construction has already been submitted to the Yamuna Committee.

The proposal for Barapullah Phase III project received approval from the L-G during the governing body of Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning and Engineering) Centre (UTTIPEC). The alignment of this phase is planned on similar lines of the old pontoon bridge. The road will be constructed on pillars, explained Raj Kumar Chauhan, PWD Minister.

The extension of this phase of the elevated road will include integration with the Metro station as well as the flyover at Mayur Vihar Phase I, which has already been proposed to be transformed into a two carriageway flyover. Also, loops will be formed in order to facilitate movement in different directions. Apart from all these, footpath and cycle tracks will also be constructed along the Phase III of the elevated corridor to facilitate the cyclist using the route. According to the proposal, the road will have four-lanes and will also include loops through which the traffic moving towards Noida can take the right turning loop. This will be a good advantage to commuters moving between East and South Delhi, as they will not have to get struck in the traffic congestion on the Ring Road.

A Pune-based research institute will be conducting a study over the proposal of the construction Yamuna bridge. The plan will shortly be sent to the Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC) followed by which, the preparation of a detailed project report will be kick started.
