Road flyover to be demolished to construct elevated corridor
To make way for a new elevated corridor from Chalukya Hotel Circle to Hebbal junction, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has decided to demolish the existing flyover opposite its head office on Sankey road.
After the end of Lok Sabha elections and getting clearance from state government this project is expected begin. It was told by a senior BDA official that the cost of this project is 1,100 crore.
According to BDA’s planning, Basava Bhavan will be shifted but the historic Windsor Manor Bridge will not be disturbed. The existing flyover on Sankey road, opposite BDA head office, will be demolished and the 7 Km long corridor will be built on top of bridge and railway track.
The official further added, “It is a temporary flyover. It will have to be removed to construct the elevated corridor using steel pillars. The elevated corridor will have six lanes and is expected to smoothen the ride to the Kempegowda International Airport from the City centre. We are waiting for government clearance, that will be obtained only after the Lok Sabha elections”.
Without affecting the traffic, the BDA officials are working to demolish the existing structure. The complete project report of this corridor has been prepared and tender have to be invited.
The existing flyover is constructed by BBMP. BBMP officials say that the existing flyover is constructed by using magic box technology by using which the structure is mobile and not permanent and can be removed. This technology is no Indian technology but this technology is widely used in Japan, Korea, Malaysia were time and place is constant.
The BBMP official says, “This is a two-lane double road and has an up ramp, a down ramp and a middle portion. We are aware that the BDA is keen to remove it for the permanent elevated corridor. The loss will not be major, except machinery and manpower that was utilised. But the pre-cast fabricated structures can be used elsewhere for constructing another flyover.” The BBMP forecast task of widening the existing Sankey road
