IIT Madras sets up centre for technology, policy
IIT Madras has recognized a centre for technology and policy to deal with development troubles and help technology innovators work more efficiently in a given policy setting.
The centre will exemplify on IIT Madras faculty proficiency and its own research staff. This will facilitate consultation and networking with policy makers, industry, investors and various other stakeholders. The responsibilities include design, promotion and assessment of public policies impinged by technological and scientific innovations. As stated by a release it will also play an important role as technology gaps in meeting development goal in the identified areas.
As per Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras, on the launch day, the projected centre will take an inter-disciplinary approach involving engineering, social science faculties and the incubation centres of the institute.
IIT Madras’ has started promoting research activities sectors like water, decentralised solar energy systems, telecom and IT, online education and human healthcare technologies as previously there were analyses which were unavailable and strategy options to the national policy making bodies were also engaged.
At the inauguration of the centre, R Chandrashekhar, President, Nasscom, and former telecom secretary, said that in the last five years, there has been a new strain of entrepreneurs with innovation in ideas and building value. After passing out from IIT’s and other leading technology institutions people have started disregarding the option either studying in the best institutions abroad or work with companies at a high salary. This division offers incredible hope for the industry.
