Decision on land transfer for convention centre deferred by Government
The Union Cabinet has deferred its decision on transfer of land for the construction of a world-class exhibition centre and air cargo complex near IGI airport here, thereby delaying the project.
The issue was discussed on April 25 at the Cabinet meeting.
“On the matter the Cabinet has deferred a decision in its meeting. The issue will come up again at the Cabinet meeting,” a top government official told a news agency.
Near New Delhi’s IGI Airport in Dwarka Sector 25 and 26, the exhibition-cum-commercial centre would include an air cargo complex spread over 154 hectares.
It would also have hotels, a convention centre that can seat 6,000 people. The approval for mixed use of the land was also required.
The proposed exhibition and commercial project will be linked to the Metro. It has been conceptualised by the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC).
For the people in the country the project is expected to generate lots of employment opportunities and could also attract foreign investment.
According to sources, there were some issues for the transfer of the land for the project with the Delhi Development Authority ( DDA).
