I came across a statement that there is 40% surcharge on the stamp duty. Can you pl enlighten me when and by which law?

Latest Answer: Hi Sudhir, Yes, suppose basic rate of Stamp Duty is 3.5% and Surcharge at the rate of 40% on basic rate i.e 1.4%. So, the total stamp duty is 3.5% + 1.4% = 4.9% (i.e. Rs.4.90 for every Rs.100 of sale consideration or part thereof. Similarly, basic rate of Registration charges is - 1% (i.e. Rs.1 for every Rs.100 of sale consideration or part thereof). Registration charges is not applicable if sale is executed in favour of female buyer. For more than one buyer for a single property, all buyers shall be female for availing such waiver of registration charge.
