Mumbai-Property tax deadline extended by a month
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has increased the period of making suggestions and objections in connection with the proposed circular of evaluation of the new property tax system by a month. The property tax will be computed on the basis of capital-value system.
Earlier, property tax was computed on the basis of rent paid by tenants.The new property tax based on the capital-value system will be applied with retrospective effect from April 1, 2010. The civic body decided to change to the capital value-based property tax system in order to bring about parity in taxation.
The civic corporation had asked people to give suggestions on its website or at their ward offices or head office within 30 days from October 18 to November 16. However, having received a mediocre response, the BMC decided to increase the period.

WE STRONGLY OBJECT TO INCREASE THE TAX UNDER ELEGANT NAME OF ” TO HELP HOLDER BELOW 500 SQ FT. CARPET ”
PRESENT RATE OF TAX TO MIDDLE CLASS MHADA SOCIETY,WHERE NOONE WAS INTERESTED TO PURCHASE IN THE YEAR 1988 BUT WE HAVE BEING , NEEDY AND MIDDLE CLASS ACCEPTED DUE TO MONETARY PROBLEMS AND TAX BENEFIT. BUT YR. 1988 ONWARDS TAXES ARE INCREASED IN A SUCH WAY THAT WE TOTALY BEND DOWN AND NOT ABLE TO SUSTAIN ANY MORE CHANGE OF PATTERN IN THE TAX.
THE PROPERTY RATE OF MHADA AND OTHER PVT. BUILDERS AND DIFFERENT. AND AS SUCH OTHER SUBERN AND MUMBAI CITY. MUNICIPAL CORPN. ALWAY TARGETS TO HONEST TAX PAYERS WHICH PLS. BE NOTED.
I, the undersigned strongly object to increase/change the patter to levy the tax on different elegant names..
1. We are middle income group, and hence accepted MHADA’s plot at faraway from the stn. considering that we can manage ourselves in very limited income of ours.
2. Compare to Mumbai City and other subern , Charkop at time of 1988 and now ,property value is very low.
3. Thirdly our carpet area is below 400 sq.ft.
4, Tidats’ property tax is to such faraway destination , is high and every year this goes increasing since 1988 onwards.
5. If Clusters are double story the tax is very negligible to them
