BBMP will send notices to the property tax defaulters of 2008-09 and 2009-10 across Bangalore to adhere to the payments, failing which the civic body would attach properties of the defaulters for the year 2010-11.Fed up with the poor response despite several reminders to meet the tax payment deadline of November 29, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to act tough with the defaulting property owners.

In case the property owner is ducking the tax payment and if you are the tenant, BBMP will directly be collecting rent from you. This means that if you are a property owner, the rent paid by your tenant will not come to you if you are a property tax defaulter.Property owners who haven’t paid the tax from the last two years will be served notices starting Tuesday.

Attaching properties and articles of defaulters is only for tax defaulters for years 2008-09 and 2009-10. For the property owners who have not paid the tax for the year 2010-11 by November 29, BBMP will continue collecting two per cent of penalty for every month.

A senior BBMP official also said that property owners who in spite of all this do not end up paying property taxes will be prosecuted under the KMC Act. The BBMP had set Rs 1,600 crore as the target revenue through collection of property tax for 2010-11, but the revenue so far collected till November is just Rs 800 crore.
