Construction of apartments in Chandigarh is stopped by HC
Tata Camelot was planning to construct skyscrapers in the vicinity of Sukhna Lake.
They have to drop the plan as the Punjab and Haryana High Court today has directed Punjab, Haryana and the Chandigarh Administration to stop the construction activities in the lake’s catchment area, and also demolish the structure if any construction activity takes place against the high court mandate.
The HC has asked the government to put their enforcement agencies in action to stop the construction activities immediately, which are going on in the catchment area as per the map of Survey of India.
In an early order the court has directed to restore the old glory of the lake by observing that no housing colony or building activities take place in the catchment area, either within the forest area or agriculture area. That order was ruled out in March 2011.
The court has ordered that any kind of real estate construction in the catchment area will be stopped by the government.
