Impact fee for properties in Gujarat will be reduced

Impact FeesThe Gujarat government has planned to drastically reduce the impact fee. The impact fee is a registration charge for legalizing illegal structures in the state’s urban areas.

According to sources the state urban development department has decided to fix a “nominal fixed value” for regularizing illegal properties in Ahmedabad and other cities by charging the fee.

The government took the decision as very few application submitted for regularizing illegal structures due to the high rate of the impact fee.

The government has fixed an upper limit for different categories of buildup areas to be charged as impact fee. It is expected that fixing the upper ceiling will particularly benefit those who have built illegal structures in urban areas like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot.

In another change, the government has decided not to charge any impact fee for those who had altered a residential area of up to 150 sq metres into a commercial venture.

In a third change, no impact fee will be charged in case a new sanitary facility, particularly a toilet, is created for residential area changed into commercial use.

The government feels that this decision will help common people in a big way, as it will reduce administrative complications.
