CID to probe into alleged corruption in BMC
In a recent development, Crime Investigation Department (CID), has been approached to probe allegations of corruption against the city’s municipal corporation in allotment of garbage-collection contracts to private parties.
Around 75 per cent of the garbage is being cleared by private contractors, the remaining by municipality employees.
As per the allegation, made during the ongoing monsoon session of the state legislative council, the corporation allotted the contract to other agencies for a staggering Rs 971 crore, whereas in the previous year it was around Rs 421 crore.
There have allegations related to manipulation in bagging a contract as instances have been rampant where one person submits tenders in different names. Faced with these allegations, Minister of state for urban development, Bhaskar Jadhav assured the house that the issue would be investigated by the CID and a report submitted within two months.
