Housing societies harvest rainwater in Mumbai

1 Comment Sub Category:Mumbai,Municipality Posted On: Jul 19, 2012

While the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has been forwarding many innovative ideas to solve the water crisis like desalination, cloud seeding and water recycling, none of these plans have been materialized. Under these circumstances, few housing societies have helped themselves through rainwater harvesting to solve the problem.

The Raheja Vihar Rainbow society in Powai and Avanti Niketan CHS, Sion, are the praiseworthy societies who spent a little more than Rs 1 lakh on the project and successfully implemented the technology using their open terrace as the catchment area.

As stated by the residents of the societies, the water from rainwater harvesting system is used for all secondary purposes like gardening, washing cars and the building premises as well as in toilets.
