Stray dog number on the rise in Bangalore

1 Comment Sub Category:Bangalore,Municipality Posted On: Jul 26, 2012

Stray dogs in Bangalore have become a menace to people on the road, especially children and two-wheeler riders. There are about 2 lakhs stray dogs in the streets of the city.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials concede that the city’s stray dog number is on the rise despite BBMP’s Animal Birth Control programme that involves neutering the dogs.

The programme has been proposed as a long term solution to address the menace. However, as conceded by the authorities, the manpower shortage had adversely affected the programme.

Citing dogs’ natural birth cycle as the main reason behind their rising population, the officials however have claimed that despite the increased dog population, the number of bites reported had come down.
