The Bahrut Bangalore Municipal Corporation (BBMP) is to soon generate 8 MW of power from solid waste, said M K Shankarlingegowda BBMP commissioner.

This comes along with Mysore City Corporation’s (MCC) plans to convert solid waste to generate power.

According to M K Shankarlingegowda, Bangalore’s plant will be the first in India and he said that he hopes the plant will be operational in 90 days.

4,000 tonnes of garbage is produced everyday and Rs 5,050 crore is invested  for solid waste management, including Rs 2,000 crore capital investment, the commissioner said, adding that garbage management is to be focused on.

The move is appreciated by delegates saying that there is a need to change the attitude of the people towards waste.
