BBMP employees stop working, Bangalore to face civic woes
Civic administration in Bangalore came to a halt on Wednesday as 12,000 employees of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) stopped their work.
The employees were protesting against the alleged interference of the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) in BBMP’s work. With the employees’ union threatening to continue with the protest a bunch of civic woes impend on the city – garbage mounds piling up, posing serious health hazards.
BBMP headquarters at Narasimha Raja Square remained shut, so were its 287 help centres, 18 citizen centres and zonal offices, causing inconvenience to the public. The BBMP is agitated about the fact that about 156 engineers are facing problems from the BMTF as cases have been booked against them based on complaints from the public, without any cross-checking.
