Malleswaram residents don’t want Metro on PPP

No Comments Sub Category:Community,Realty News Posted On: Feb 28, 2011

Malleswaram residents don’t want Metro on  public-private partnership (PPP). It’s all part of a people’s move to ‘Save Malleswaram’ from more congestion.  On Sunday, residents and activists met their elected representatives and submitted a ‘people memorandum’ demanding the PPP agreement between Bangalore Metro and the private developer be cancelled.

The residents and activists demanded the cancellation of the PPP agreement between Bangalore Metro and the private developer alleging this could bring in more high-rises in and around the station, adding to more congestion on roads.

They said the subsequent increase in population density will lead to problems like water, electricity, sewage and garbage in surrounding areas of west Bangalore that includes Malleswaram, Seshadripuram, Rajajinagar and Gandhinagar. They want the station to be built by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) like the other metro stations. Further, they also insisted that the FAR must be restricted to 2-3 as against the 4 that is currently being allowed around the metro stations.

What’s caused concern over the proposed station is the lack of clarity. Activists complained that even their RTI queries to the agencies have not got any replies. The three elected representatives— MLAs Ashwath Narayana, Dinesh Gundu Rao and MP P C Mohan — promised to take the issue up at the assembly after the budget discussions and also submit this people memorandum to both the CM and the governor.
