The unfortunate incident, which left residents having to clean sewage mixed water from their homes and to put up with the stench, was caused due to a breach in Arekere Lake’s bund.
Reportedly, there was a small crack in the lake bund which was temporarily fixed with sand bags and reinforcements and which gave away suddenly. Over 150 houses and buildings were flooded with water and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) had to stop drinking water supply to all these houses fearing the sewage water would get mixed with drinking water.
