BEST to cut down 300 buses
The BEST is planning to cut down the bus strength by more than 300 in Mumbai which was discussed in the budget proposal for 2013-14.The blueprint, if executed, the commuters will suffer a lot and it will impact 500 recent shuttle bus routes, having many routes cancelled in the near future.
According to budget estimates, the BEST said that there are around 4,607 buses available in the city from which they will cut down 172 buses in the near future. By March 2013 they are planning to discard 321 and 48 buses in 2013-2014 and by March 2014 the total fleet is expected to be 4,288 buses.
The bus utilization has come down from 90 percent two tears ago to 84 percent this year said by committee member Ravi Raja.
MNS committee member Kedar Hombalkar said that BEST buses were facing losses of Rs 106 crores as very less number of passengers were travelling by buses daily.
