Bangalore Property Tax Rebate Deadline Till May 30

Bangalore Property Owners can breathe a sigh of relief. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has extended the deadline for payment of property tax 2011-12 till May 30. The property owners can avail a 5% rebate on payment of property tax for whole year. BBMP had earlier fixed April 30, 2011, as the last date for property tax payment.

“BBMP received a large number of requests from the public requesting for an extension of deadline as many could not avail the facility in April due to rain and public holidays,” speaking at the first council meeting after the new Mayor assumed charge, the leader of the House in the council, BR Nanjundappa said.

The BBMP DC (Revenue) NS Ramakanth said the extension would encourage more property owners to file returns. “Till April 30, we collected around Rs 338 crore as property tax, of which Rs 30 crore was collected online,” he said. Ramakanth said around 3,80,000 owners had paid property tax.

For property owners paying Property tax for the Year 2011-12 will have to shell out a little extra money in the form of garbage cess. Solid Waste Management Cess or garbage cess is applicable for all Residential Buildings, Commercial Buildings, Industrial Buildings, Hotels, Kalyana Mantapa and Nursing home. Solid Waste Management Cess is applicable for buildings based on Plinth Area and Cess should be paid on the rates fixed by the BBMP along with property tax return. Property owners may make their tax payments through demand drafts or pay order at the respective help centers as well.

You can also make online payment of BBMP Property Tax 2011-12, if previous year property tax are paid.If property tax is paid in two installments for the current year, then two separate forms should be filed for each half year. SWM Cess should be paid along with property tax half year or full year as in the case of the property tax.

A penalty of 2% of the tax is levied as interest per month for late payment. If the property tax return for the previous year has not been filed, property tax for the current year shall be accompanied with the return and dues for the previous years.
