Metro “All Clear” to extend to Ghaziabad

In a step that will benefit Lakhs of commuters from the NCR region, the Delhi Cabinet has given an in-principle nod for the extension of the Metro line till Ghaziabad. Faridabad YMCA Chowk to Ballabhgarh and Noida City Centre to Noida Sector 62 are the other two metro extensions where an approval can be soon expected.

The extension of these three Metro lines had been put on hold by the earlier Delhi Government as then Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit was not in favour of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) taking up projects outside Delhi. The Cabinet also directed the agencies that the public transport facilities on shall also be improvised efficiently by increasing the bus connectivity on the prominent routes. This will facilitate a hassle-free journey public transport users.

The planned 9.41-km corridor from Dilshad Garden to Ghaziabad will be an alternative to the current Anand Vihar to Vaishali corridor for the commuters heading to Ghaziabad. It has been learnt from the officials that the second phase may have seven stations, namely: Shahid Nagar, Raj Bagh, Rajendra Nagar, Shyam Park, Mohan Nagar, Arthala and the New Bus Terminal in Ghaziabad.

The Cabinet has hinted the approvals on the other two extension lines would be coming soon. As per a Delhi Government official “The Cabinet notes for the two extensions have been prepared and they will be sent for the Cabinet approval.” The 6.7-km Noida City Centre to sector 62 link is planned to be completely elevated there will be six stations on the route at sectors 34, 52, 59, 61, 62 and Electronic City. Faridabad YMCA Chowk to Ballabhgarh Metro extension is a 3.2-km link and has been proposed for better connectivity.
