Conference on challenges in urban cities hosted by ICC

The event marked the presence of students, government officials, teachers and experienced architects together in order to discuss about various issues being faced by the urban city and how to find the necessary solution to tackle it in this decisive six sessions of interactions. Present to grace the occasion were President of ICC, Managing Trustee KMOMA and Chairperson ICC Kolkata, Rakhi Sarkar; T.K Bhattacharya, Professor, Department Of Architecture in Jadavpur University; Professor P.P Chakraborty of IIT Kharagpur, Harshvardhan Patodia, President of CREDAI Bengal and Urban Minster of West Bengal, Firhad Hakim.

Speaking in the event, Firad Hakim said, “We must focus on how to improve and develop the present Urban Infrastructure of Kolkata. Major initiatives should also be undertaken by the Department in order to make Kolkata a modern hub of rich cultural ethnicity, heritage and modern age of development and technology.” He further added, “Both sides of the Hoogly River need to be refurbished from pollution and discarded sewages dumped into it.”

The managing trustee of KMOMA and chairperson of the ICC, Rakhi Sarkar, said on the occasion, “The sound urban planning will be a major bridging device between Urban and Rural states. In this regard, the plans and actions undertaken by KMOMA are of immense importance. There is a need for creative minds, expertise and excellence in redefining the Urban Infrastructure.” She further added, “The old has to be reinvented. The new has to be created for at least next 200 years in mind.”

Professor Partha Pratim Chakraborty, who is a professor of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kharagpur said, “Stress on the needs of sound planning to blend on the rich heritage of the city. Technology should also be used to improve the lives of the poor, which in turn improve the urban space.”
