GMR bags its first railway project
GMR Infrastructure Limited, an infra-major, informed that a consortium led by the company has bagged its first rail project. The company is the lead member of the consortium with Tata Projects and Kalindee Rail Nirman Ltd as the partner for OHE (overhead electrification), track works and S&T (signalling and telecommunications) works respectively. The work involves doubling rail line between Jhansi and Bhimsen stations in Uttar Pradesh. The company’s share of work is about Rs 135 crore while the total value of the contract is Rs 267 crore. Among other things, the will includes construction of roadbed, major and minor bridges, track-linking and general electrical works. The duration for completion of the project is 42 months from the date of commencement of the work which is April 2, 2014.
GMR Urban Infrastructure and Highways chief executive officer Arun Kumar Sharma informed that the company plans build engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) expertise in a niche segment like railways. Letter of award has been issued by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited to GMR consortium on February 20, 2014.
