Aurangabad civic body may launch property tax recovery drive

AURANGABAD: The civic body, supporting recently appointed municipal commissioner Astik Kumar Pandey is expected to originate an uncompromising tax recovery drive. Anticipating a statement to this conclusion, corporator and others have endeavored an amnesty scheme for tax defaulters.

The cash-strapped Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) could accumulate only throughout one-fourth of its entire recovery target of Rs 450 crore this year. In the 2017-18 financial year, the civic body had proclaimed recovery percentage of only 20.54% — upon the set target of Rs 390 crore. The collection towards property tax was throughout 39% when the target bearing Rs 230 crore in 2016-17.

Corporator Raju Vaidya stated an amnesty scheme could demonstrate significant in promoting the collection. “Such a measure had operated last year, and it may serve this year too. The plan is a win-win for the AMC and citizens,” he stated.

Corporator Rajendra Janjal stated all elected representatives allowed with the civic administration for developing tax recovery. “A proper tax collection mechanism can assure the sound financial health of the civic body. While many citizens pay taxes sincerely, those who manage to dodge taxes must be targeted,” he stated.

While the combination of dues towards water tax was not a bit of the immunity scheme last year, it was unclear whether the identical would be consolidated this point or not.
