CIDCO fast tracks Navi Mumbai airport project

No Comments Sub Category:Infrastructure,Mumbai Posted On: May 22, 2014

With an aim to fast-track the work on much-hyped Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) project, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) recently laid the foundation stone for the development of Pushpak Nagar (Dapoli). Spread across 220 ha, the area enjoys proximity to the airport with the NH-4B cutting across the landmass.

Construction work is expected to begin in the next three months.

With the total budget of Rs 560 crore, this ambitious project is envisaged to become a modern hub with well-laid roads, streetlights and other infrastructure upgrades. Further, in order to enhance the connectivity, metro is also being planned here.

The villagers whose land will be acquired for the airport project will also get certain incentives. As per the 22.5 per cent compensation package, the villagers will be allocated the developed plots with FSI of 2 by January-February, 2015. The time for companies to respond to the request for qualifications (RFQs) for the Navi Mumbai airport project is likely to be extended – by more than one month – by Cidco, the nodal body which is overseeing the proposed airport. The extension will give interested companies the time for submission of their audited accounts for the last financial year that ended on March 31.

With regard to the time extension move, Sanjay Bhatia – Managing Director of Cidco – told The Economic Times that the time-extension proposal was one of the many proposals which companies interested in bidding for the Navi Mumbai airport project had put forth at a pre-bid meeting which was held on April 2.

A total of 20 companies attended the pre-bid meeting for the Rs 14,573-crore Navi Mumbai airport project, which will span across a sprawling 2,867-acre area. The companies which participated in the meeting included the likes of GMR, Mumbai International Airport, Tata Realty and Infrastructure Projects, and Spain-based firm Ferrovial.

Revealing that the proposal for extension of time for response to RFQs for the airport project has received the approval of the project monitoring and implementation committee, Bhatia said that the proposal now requires to be approved by the Civil Aviation Ministry.
