Home for all- Modi’s new mantra
India will celebrate its 75th independence day in 2022 and Narendra Modi has a dream to fulfil for every Indian family by then. To fulfil this ambitious housing target by 2022, even before the Govt is formed and the portfolios are divided, the Modi team is busy to chart the urban and rural India initiatives. Modi manifesto states that they will build 20 million in urban India and 45 million housing units in rural India. They will take help from public, private, community and individual sectors to fulfil this agenda. The then Chairman and M.D of the Housing and Urban Infrastructure Corporation (HUDCO) V. Suresh believes that it is possible, as he had done extensive work in this field since 1998 when his team had drafted India’s first Housing and Habitat Policy. He believes that if the right fiscal incentives are provided to the real estate sector and the support mechanisms from Govt. on India are in place then the various red-tapes from these housing projects can be removed. It seems that ‘’home for all’’ dream can come true in the near future.
