Delhi Metro Rail Corp completes tunnelling work for INA-South Extension Metro
More than seven months after the lowering of a tunnel-boring machine (TBM) into the INA shaft in October last year, the tunnelling work – using TBM – on the INA-South Extension Metro stretch has finally been completed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
Going by the information shared by the DMRC officials, a tunnelling stretch of 925 metres – till South Extension – has been completed by the TBM lowered into the INA shaft in October.
Another TBM, using which the tunnelling task is being carried out in the adjacent tunnel, is just 250 metres behind. It will probably take a fortnight to retrieve that TBM from the South Extension shaft.
The INA-South Extension Metro stretch being tunnelled by the DMRC is a part Metro’s Phase III network’s Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor which is 58.5km-long. The mentioned corridor comprises a total of 11 underground stretches that total up to a distance of 14km.
Under Metro’s Phase III construction work, DMRC is scheduled to construct underground Metro lines over a distance of 53km. For the construction of the underground Metro lines, nearly 34 TBMs will likely be used by the DMRC. This phase will involve the construction of a total of 74 tunnels.
Meanwhile, it has also been revealed by DMRC officials said that tunnelling work is underway even for the 710m stretch between Sarojini Nagar and INA.
