Slum Development projects to get aid from PPP and CSR

No Comments Sub Category:Realty News Posted On: Jul 03, 2014

Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu prefers the public-private partnership (PPP) and corporate social responsibility (CSR) to achieve the NaMo government’s dream of ‘’housing for all’’ by 2020. By the 75th Independence Day in 2022, the Modi government wants to fulfil this dream of providing the urban poor with a house with all the basic amenities like sanitation and potable drinking water.

At a high-level meeting with the ministry officials and organisations like National Housing Bank, Indian Banker’s Association, FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of commerce and Industries), ASSOCHAM (The associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry in India) and CII (Confederation of Indian Industry),Naidu mentioned that the government will focus on planned housing with necessary facilities in the coming years as it is expected that 50% of the Indian population will live in urban areas by 2050.

Naidu also mentioned that the Ministry has only Rs 35,000 crore for this slum development project, in the 12th Plan, and hence the PPP and CSR will be encouraged as the requirement is much larger. Hence if the necessary funds are raised with the government aid and the contribution from CSR and PPP, then this dream will be a reality by India’s 75th Independence Day.
