Bangalore’s biggest IT hub undergoing a sea change due to Metro rail line

No Comments Sub Category:Bangalore,Infrastructure,Realty News Posted On: Jun 05, 2014

Bangalore’s bigwig IT hub, Whitefield, is apparently on the verge of a sea change, as the second phase of the Metro project extends the Metro rail line right up to the area in which the IT hub is located.

Whitefield is one of Karnataka’s fastest-growing tech hubs and industrial areas. The IT hub has more than 700 industries, including over 10 industrial estates, malls, IT parks, hospitals, international schools, and residential spaces.

With the extension of the Metro rail line up to the area, industries are worried about the 7km stretch from KR Puram railway station to ABB Junction. Some of the industries – whose properties have been earmarked for the Metro project – are moving out to Malur Road (Kolar); while others are undergoing a contraction because they have to give away land for the project.

According to BMRC MD Pradeep Singh Kharola, tenders for land acquisition for the Whitefield extension of 15.5km from Byappanahalli – with 13 stations on the route – will be floated by BMRC in the next two months.

Meanwhile, asserting that the Whitefield IT hub area wants “Metro connectivity,” RN Hegde – VP of Whitefield Area Commerce and Industries Association – said: “There are many industries on the proposed stretch and thousands of Bangaloreans travel to this area for work every day. We urge BBMP to widen the roads so that connectivity is not affected when BMRC commences work.’”
