IBM and Lodha Group join hands to build and manage smart city Palava
A joint venture agreement has been signed between the Mumbai-based real estate developer Lodha Group and global IT major IBM to build and manage smart city infrastructure for Palava, a greenfield city development project of the realty developer. Palava is located at the extreme north of Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), at the junction of Navi Mumbai and Dombivali.
Shaishav Dharia the development director—Palava, Lodha Group, told reporters on Wednesday that the Lodha Group intends to spend Rs 400 crore over the next 10 years in adopting smart city initiatives in Palava.
Not only with IBM, Lodha group has already tied up with another diversified technology major General Electric (GE) to treat waste water for re-use and for landscaping, flushing etc. in the new planned city.
IBM’s involvement in Palava will be in the public safety arena. The technology giant will be defining and setting up technology enabled procedures like an integrated command centre to monitor end-to-end operations of the city. And in the space of physical infrastructure, IBM will involve building security system for citizens through smart cards and security cameras.
Dharia mentioned that special services similar to the 311 & 911 facilities in the US and other developed western world countries have also been incorporated into Palava’s infrastructure. This contract between Lodha and IBM is for five years at present, which can be extended if both the parties deem to do so. Hence some ultra tech savvy days are coming for the residents of Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
