CM of Punjab directed the Industry department to speed up mega projects
In Chandigarh, the empowered committee of the Punjab Government gave approval to reduce the cancer relief fund from 0.5 per cent to 0.25 per cent (maximum Rs 25 lakh) if there is a delay in mega projects. The committee also increased the permissible period of delay from one year to two years.
Chief Minister of Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal wants the Industry Department to take action against the erring officers who are responsible for lapses in providing requisite approvals for mega projects.
The CM was presiding over a meeting of the empowered committee on mega projects. The Department of Information Technology (IT) has been designated as the nodal agency for matters relating to mega/super mega projects relating to IT, knowledge and industry parks. The department of IT will have the full authority to take action against any kind of delays in mega projects.
The CM directed the Housing Department to grant approvals pertaining to housing projects in a time-bound manner to avoid unnecessarily delays.
In this meeting it was also approved that the ongoing Quark City (phase I) project would be carried out as per the previous agreement between the state government and Quark City India Private Limited. However, the phase II of the project would be cleared as per the new investment promotion policy of the government. The new policy aims at providing all requisite clearances for setting up industrial, housing, agro and IT units through a single officer i.e. the CEO, Bureau of Investment Promotion, Punjab reducing unnecessary delays and bottle necks due to red-tapism.
