Modi decided to meet Secretaries of Commerce and Revenue to discuss the SEZ tax issue
The new Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi has decided to meet the Secretaries of Commerce and Revenue this Saturday itself. The meeting will discuss all the matters related to Special Economic Zones. Not just that, issues pertaining to tax benefits and its restoration shall also be discussed.
On Friday, a meeting was organized between Modi and the Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharam. The conversation was based on Indian industries and her discussions with several business organizations. One of the government officials also mentioned that tracking of prices on vital commodities such as onion and milk was laid emphasis on during this meeting.
Because the Finance and the Commerce Ministry has been dealing with various aspects of SEZs, the Prime Minister decides to have a meeting with the Revenue Secretary and the Commerce Secretary so that both of them could have a face to face confrontation and sort the matters there itself.
Modi wants the Commerce Ministry to pay attention on prices of those commodities that are important. Milk, onions and pulses are some of them. Since the Commerce Ministry has not done anything important on the matter of exports, especially onions, Rajeev Kher mentioned that monitoring shall be conducted on a regular basis henceforth.
