E-governance to end construction Mafia Raaj in U.P
It looks like that now even the states are taking the e-governance way. The PWD minister Shivpal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party government to have chosen e-governance to fight against the powerful construction mafia by ordering that from August 1 onwards no tender would be accepted manually and only e-tenders shall be submitted.
He wants to increase transparency and wants to bring an end to tender-capturing of major projects by a handful of powerful contractors since e-tenders would be open to all and nobody would know about the bidders.
E-Tendering was started on an experimental basis in Lucknow zone and now it has been compulsorily implemented for the entire state from August 1. No manual tenders will be accepted after that.
A few years back, senior IAS officer G B Patnaik had on court directions submitted a detailed report to the government for tackling the mafia menace. His report also stated that a whopping sum of Rs 10,000 crore a year is mishandled by this Construction Mafia. The court had ordered state government to set up a special police cell to liquidate the organised crime however during Chief Minister Kalyan Singh’s regime, nothing had happened.
It seems now some better days are coming for the state and honest builders can breathe easy now.
