Land Acquisition Law to undergo changes: Gadkari
The irony in India is that we still follow the laws created during the British Raaj. Most of them have become irrelevant with the changing times. Six months back the UPA government had come up with a new central land acquisition law. Now the new BJP led government is has embarked on its overhaul and bring some changes in the current provisions.
However many states and senior government functionaries in charge of infrastructure projects have expressed concern over the impracticality of the new law. The new law wants to safeguard the interests of the farmers and the land owners, and emphasises on the elaborate requirements of local peoples’ consent.
Industry bodies like CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) are upset with the new law, and have noted that the new Act has increased the land acquisition cost by three times by making the lands unavailable for sale.
The rural development and roads minister Nitin Gadkari mentioned after the Friday’s meeting where many BJP-ruled states had participated, that the states’ concerns have been noted and a report on the same would be prepared in 10 days. Everyone is seeking guidance from the P.M Narendra Modi who has a pro- industrialisation and pro-growth image.
