Mangalore: Muda to build residential apartments on PPP model
In a move which is the first of its kind for the Mangalore Urban Development Authority (Muda), residential apartments will be built by Muda on the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Muda’s decision to count on the PPP model for constructing residential apartments marks the agency’s foray into a hitherto unexplored territory. According to Muda officials, the residential project for which Muda will take the PPP approach will adhere to all requirements; and will be aimed at providing affordable houses to the economically-weaker sections and the middle-class people.
The project will have the requisite peripheral infrastructure, including roads, drainage systems, parks, and other amenities and facilities. The construction of apartments will come up only on 55 cents of the at least 10-acre land area of each complex built under the PPP model; with the remaining portion of the land to be utilized for infrastructural purposes.
With Muda’s jurisdiction extending over sixty wards of Mangalore City Corporation, Mulky town panchayat, Ullal town municipality, and 27 villages in Mangalore taluk, the construction of apartments will commence once appropriate site is identified.
When site owners come forward to be a part of Muda’s residential project under PPP model, the construction of apartments – to be sized 20X30 sqft, 30×40 sqft and 40×60 sqft – will be taken up as soon as possible.
