Animal rights NGO, People For Animals (PFA) has been allotted a half-acre plot in sector 9E, Kalamboli, by the Cidco, for constructing the first veterinary hospital in the city. Animal welfare has long been side-lined, and this initiative would be a breath of fresh air for neglected animals throughout the city, as well as spur the development of further such hospitals in other parts of the city. Moreover, other NGOs could pitch in and contribute towards the maintenance and upkeep of this hospital, as well as put forward initiatives of their own.

The plot, costing approximately Rs. 10.8 lakhs, has been leased to the NGO, headed by Union Minister Maneka Gandhi, for 60 years. Maneka Gandhi, a long-time animal rights activist, has encouraged all planning authorities, municipal corporations and collectors to allocate land for animal hospitals.

Poonam Mahajan, MP and a PFA Trustee, mentioned plans to invite other trusts to donate equipment for the hospital. The project is expected to be completed in two years, and would hopefully be a stepping stone for the development of other projects in and around the city in the near future.
