Bangalore: Consumers advised to ask water-related questions before buying home

With a grave energy crisis apparently waiting to hit Karnataka, thanks to a projected weak monsoon and the widening supply-demand gap, realty experts are advising potential home-buyers to check out a few water-related aspects before buying an apartment in Bangalore.

According to experts, prospective apartment buyers in Bangalore should ask developers about whether their project includes the requisite mechanism for water conservation, recycling and rainwater harvesting.

Such a cross-check is essential because borewells – even with a depth of approximately 1000 ft – may not be able to assure adequate water supply to meets the needs of a residential complex because groundwater resources in Bangalore have depleted notably in the last few years.

In addition to a check about installation of non-conventional water resources, potential home buyers in Bangalore should also check for relevant documents with regard to water supply to a complex, if the developer claims that application for residential water connections to the project has been submitted.

With experts asserting that potential home buyers should also ask the developer about individual water meters for each apartment, Manjunath Ravindra – the president of welfare association in one of the apartment complexes in Marathahalli – said: “Always ask for photocopy of the application form, approval document and/or letters of intent.”
