Home automation services, a new trend in the urban residential real estate

No Comments Sub Category:Realty News Posted On: Aug 20, 2014

There have been a lot of changes in the way the homes were designed a decade back and now. Home automations are no longer luxury add-ons for the builders and they are now a cost-saving necessity. Unishire, a three-year-old builder in Bangalore, mentioned that homes fitted with smart features are a default for the customers across the 2 million square feet that the company is developing.

Shukla the CEO of SmartrHomesset out to design the sensors that sit at the entry point of plumbing and compute how much water is used by each household. He mentioned that many households now have the water bill which is twice as much their electricity bill.

All houses pay equally, despite differing usage.  The water bill in apartment complexes is usually calculated by a simple formula — the total water used is divided by total number of houses. The solution costs upwards of Rs 5,499 and was commercialised this April.

Bangalore-based SmartrHomes Technologies is now talking to both upcoming apartments and 14 other existing ones in Bangalore. Although deal activity is yet to take off in India in the home automation space, foreign investments are being pumped in aggressively overseas. Between 2012 and 2013, home automation start-ups have raised $468 million across 56 deals mostly in the US.

Earlier in 2014, Google acquired Nest which was a leader in the makers of thermostats and smoke alarms. AvinashGautam, the 47-year-old CEO of Silvan Innovation Labs mentioned that the Six-year-old company has worked with top builders, including Sobha Developers, Indraprastha, Tata Housing and Brigade Group. He mentioned that the timing was nice for the company. By the time the technology was ready, the builders were looking for differentiating factors.
