Bengal minister retorts Ratan Tata saying he has lost his mind
Ratan Tata’s raging comment on West Bengal’s industrial scene triggered an all out attack by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders on Thursday, with state finance minister Amit Mitra even saying that the Tata Group chairman emeritus has completely lost his mind.
Last Wednesday, Tata had said that he couldn’t see any industrial development during his drive from Kolkata airport. He stated that he saw a lot of residential and commercial buildings and all of this looks like countryside development. Mitra reminded Tata that the stretch he drove through is not an industrial zone but is one which is exclusively planned for housing commercial establishments.
Mitra further stated saying that he humbly asks him when he travels from Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport how many industrial units he comes across. He is illinformed and rather confuse. The ministers’ remarks stunned the industry. Mitra believes Bengal is shining. He stated Tata group (TCS) are setting up a new campus on 40 acres, he went on commenting that perhaps he do not have the information about it. Tata Metaliks has also applied for expansion. Mitra said the state had cleared the proposal for Anil Ambani’s Rs 600 crore cement plant and reeled off project plans by Emami group and Tata Hitachi.
