New Capital of Andhra Pradesh to be located in Vijaywada-Guntur
Andhra Pradesh’s new capital is being said to be located in Vijaywada-Guntur area, with clusters that would include Mangalgiri and Amravati towns developed around it. A central team has given an opinion this as one of the options.Although it has suggested two more options, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is in favour of the Vijayawada-Guntur choice.
The five member committee that has been set up by the Centre in May, headed by former urban development secretary K Sivaramakrishnan, has almost finalised its report and will be submitting it to the home ministry in a fortnight. According to top sources, the committee has roughly recommended three options for the new capital. One option is to not have a centralised capital at all but a series of connected small towns with a dispersed set of administrative offices, according to functionality.
The second is to have a set of three regional clusters, one in Rayalseema, the other in the Vijaywada-Guntur belt, and a third in the Vizag/Vijayanagaram area. The final recommendation, favoured by the state government, seems to be to locate the new capital in the Vijaywada-Guntur belt while developing smaller towns like Mangalgiri and Amravati in the vicinity, like the National Capital Region (NCR) of Dehi.
