5000 toilets to be built under the CSR programme of L&T
There is some good news for the poor people of the nation as L&T (Larsen and Toubro) is all set to build 5000 toilets under the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programme. A.M. Naik the Group Executive Chairman announced a major CSR initiative that would add traction to the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ programme.
This ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ programme was launched by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on the Independence Day. In a statement on Sunday the company talked in details about the contours of this CSR initiative.
L&T also mentioned that the company along with L&T Public Charitable Trust was committed to building India’s social infrastructure. This action is in sync with the P.M Narendra Modi’s vision of a better India. The investments will cover water supply & distribution, sanitation facilities, healthcare facilities and skill training institutes.
The company would build 2,000 toilets initially and progressively scale it up to 5,000. Post-Independence India has grown in leaps and bounds. Our metros boast of facilities equivalent to any of the cities in the developed nations. But the cleanliness and sanitation problems have always remained.
It is so sad to see that after 67 years of Independence, many rural and urban households do not have the basic facility of a toilet. This poses serious health concerns and people go to defecate in the open fields. L & T wants to give back to the society through this initiative.
