CBI probe on Robert Vadra land deal rejected
Pulling up the petitioner for levelling allegations based on newspaper reports, the Delhi high court on Tuesday dismissed a PIL seeking a CBI probe into land deals involving Robert Vadra. The PIL sought a probe into licences granted to several real estate developers in Haryana, including one allegedly associated with Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law
A division bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice RS Endlaw noted while rejecting the public interest litigation filed by advocate ML Sharma had to say that they may at the outset point out that the writ petition has been filed purely on the basis of the newspaper reports without producing any material to substantiate the authenticity of the contents of the said reports. The court said he failed to produce sufficient evidence to substantiate the averments made in the petition.
Another ground on which the court dismissed the PIL was that of jurisdiction. It noted that having given their thoughtful consideration to the facts and circumstances of the case, it appears to them that no part of cause of action has arisen within the territorial jurisdiction of this court.
